One of the very good reasons to go to Flaine is its ski area: the Grand Massif. Linking the resorts of Flaine - Les Carroz - Morillon - Samoëns - Sixt, it is the 5th largest ski area linked "skis to your feet" in France! Indeed, from the slopes of Flaine, you can reach the neighbouring resorts quite easily thanks to numerous ski lifts. Imagined by the mythical French ski champion Émile Allais, the slopes of Flaine are thus part of the Grand Massif.

This Wednesday the weather is great. The sun makes the snow that has fallen heavily over the last few days on Flaine glisten, covering the rough concrete buildings that stand at the foot of the slopes and the century-old fir trees.

The utopian resort of Flaine was created in the 1960s by the Hungarian-American master of Bauhaus architecture, Marcel Breuer, and everything, from the lampposts to the ski lifts, bears his imprint.

Last winter, Terminal Neige, the new brand imagined by the Sibuet family - Les Fermes de Marie, in Megève, in particular - launched a huge snowball over the image of mountain hotels.

In the Sibuet family, let's take the son Nicolas. Crazy about design in the 1960s and 1970s, he took over a run-down hotel in Flaine, a small resort that was pulled out of the ground in the 1960s by architect Marcel Breuer, the prince of minimalism.

We won't lie. Flaine isn't pretty unless dull concrete is your bag. But what IS pretty is the first three-star alpine opening of the always brilliant Sibuet group. It's the ultimate antithesis of the resort itself, a sunburn on a grey afternoon, a wildly unstable celebration of a place.

It can be admired from the summits of the station, at an altitude of over 2500 metres. Majestic, the Mont Blanc captures all eyes. The Aravis and Belledonne massifs complete this fantastic panorama. Linked to the Grand Massif resorts (Carroz, Samoëns, Mrillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval), Flaine has no less than 148 marked trails, and many off-piste possibilities, very popular with riders.

Perched at an altitude of between 1600 and 2500 m, offering the most beautiful views of the Mont-Blanc range, the Flaine resort, classified as a historical monument and whose architectural design was influenced by Marcel Breuer, is a monumental masterpiece in a green setting.

Where is it? In Flaine, in Haute-Savoie, Le Terminal Neige unveils 96 cosy rooms with a sixties design. In the heart of a gigantic cool and design living space, you come and warm up by a mineral fireplace designed by Marcel Breuer, the resort's thinker.
